For the third installment of the Tough Talk series, Planners Network explored the role of gender and gender identity in design, policy, and in the planning profession. While planning often deals with equity, gender equality is not an often discussed topic in planning. Despite this, there are innovative and progressive plans that are being pursued around the world that have directly address the way that people with different gender identities experience their environment. In this way, policy has been created to ensure that no matter someone’s gender identity, both private and public spaces have been built to make everyone safe and comfortable. Through our conversation we began to explore our responsibility as planners to deal more directly with gender through our practice.
